Biography

I have lived in Oklahoma, Colorado, Ohio, Virginia and Texas. I think I actually lived in Maryland once for a couple of weeks. I went to 5 different elementary schools. I mostly consider myself a Texan, even though I have now lived in Virginia longer than I lived in Texas.

I am currently a stay at home mom and a full-time volunteer. I have been trained professionally as a clinical social worker and certified substance abuse counselor, but the last time I was paid for a job, nobody even used email! I find great joy in leading bible studies, teaching adult sunday school, training and leading our church's Stephen Ministry and serving one day a week as a bible study leader at a local homeless shelter.

I married my high school sweetheart when I was 22 years old and I am still crazy about him (even though he still refuses to let me "tame" him!)

I am the proud mother of two precious, beautiful, kind, smart teenage girls.

I am still very close to my "growing-up" family. As a family, we have survived divorce, alcoholism, transitory step-families, frequent moves, illness, etc. and we still chose to vacation together this year! The people I grew up with know me best and love me anyway. Through them, I found God and all else that is important to me.

I treasure my girlfriends; some who have been there for 30+ years, some who I just met. Through them, I hear God's voice.

Politically, I am probably more liberal than conservative. Most of the time, I think neither of our major political parties are doing a good job of speaking to my values.

I love to laugh and sing loudly. I love to perform. I love to share the good things in my life, especially this amazing God that I try to serve.

My spiritual journey and theology has been formed on a long and winding road. I was sprinkled as a Presbyterian in infant baptism, confirmed as a young adolescent in the Methodist church, dunked in believer's baptism as an older adolescent in a Southern Baptist church, even spent a few years in my late 20s/ early 30s in a New Age "version" of Christianity called Unity. Finally found my way back to my roots in the Presbyterian Church USA about 12 years ago. Through it all, God has always been faithful, has never quit pursuing me, has always been my Best Friend. Through Him, I am complete.
